All Guylian chocolates are produced in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, where Guylian Master Chocolatiers produce up to 75 tonnes of chocolate daily in a production area measuring 27.000 m². This allows the Guylian group a worldwide non-consolidated turnover of 80 million euros (2015). In turn, this ensures that Guylian is one of Belgium’s leading chocolate manufacturers, with a team of 250 employees and sales offices in the UK, Germany/Austria, Spain/Portugal and the USA.
In June 2008 Guylian was acquired by Lotte Confectionary Co, Ltd, subsidiairy of the publicly listed Lotte Group, the 5th largest economic group in South Korea.
GMO Free
GMO stands for “genetically modified organism”, which is a new organism, not found in nature, created by scientists when they genetically modify or engineer food plants. Health and environmental risks with genetically modified foods have been identified. GMO free products are products which do not include modified organisms.
Halal
Halal is an Arabic word meaning lawful or permitted. In reference to food, it is the dietary standard, as prescribed in the Koran. By official definition, Halal foods are those that are:
1. Free from any component that Muslims are prohibited from consuming according to Islamic law.
2. Processed, made, produced, manufactured and/or stored using utensils, equipment and/or machinery that have been cleansed according to Islamic law.
Vegan
The Certified Vegan Logo is a registered trademark, similar in nature to the kosher mark, for products that do not contain animal products or byproducts and that have not been tested on animals. The certified logo is easily visible to consumers interested in vegan products and helps vegans to shop without constantly consulting ingredient lists. It also helps companies recognize a growing vegan market, as well as bringing the word Vegan—and the lifestyle it represents—into the mainstream. (Please keep in mind, however, that the logo is not yet on every vegan product.) The Certified Vegan Logo is currently on thousands of products manufactured by over 600 companies.
Kosher
Kosher certification is a process by which a company ensures that their food is kosher, or in other words, fit for consumption by observant Jews. Kosher refers to a religious dietary practice that is rooted in Jewish tradition. Contrary to popular belief, kosher food does not refer to Jewish cuisine. Even Thai food can be kosher if it is prepared in accordance with kosher laws, just as Jewish food can be non-kosher if it is not prepared in accordance with those laws.
